Abstract
**Context and Challenge** The **EU Green Deal** commits Europe to **climate neutrality by 2050**, placing significant pressure on engineering and manufacturing industries to **cut emissions, use resources more efficiently and ensure sustainable supply chains**. These pressures are reinforced by the recent **European Commission report**, identifying three priorities for sustainable growth: **closing the innovation gap with global competitors, aligning decarbonisation efforts, and reducing strategic dependencies**. Meeting these goals requires a new approach to how products and systems are designed and developed. **The Enginuity Approach** **Enginuity** is a European collaborative project that develops a software framework to enable **faster, efficient and sustainable engineering**. The framework supports **design exploration, optimisation and data-driven decision making**, allowing enterprises to reduce environmental impact whilst maintaining cost-effectiveness, safety and performance. Through the **integration of automation, model-based engineering and artificial intelligence**, Enginuity provides a practical pathway to transform engineering processes across sectors. **Integrated Framework** The Enginuity framework is structured around **three interconnected layers: tools, models and AI**. The tool and model layer enable highly automated and integrated engineering workflows. The AI layer initially supports the creation and adaptation of tools and models, reducing development time and lowering barriers for engineers. As the framework matures, it generates large volumes of high-quality engineering data, which is then used to train AI capabilities that deliver predictive insights and decision-support. This **continuous learning-cycle** accelerates innovation, improves engineering quality and supports informed decision-making. **Industrial Impact** Enginuity helps the construction industry deliver projects that are more cost-effective and energy-efficient by improving how materials and workflows are designed and used. This impact will be shown on live UK projects with **United Living**, who work across key areas that support communities and essential services. **Utility Infrastructure** teams design, build and maintain energy, water and telecoms networks, keeping critical systems reliable and future-ready. **Social Infrastructure** focuses on maintaining and upgrading homes through retrofit, regeneration, compliance and responsive repairs, making them safer and more efficient. Together, these activities cover construction, upgrade and long-term maintenance, providing a strong real-world setting to demonstrate impact across the UK. **European Collaboration and Impact** The project includes **28 partners from 5 European countries**, including software companies, academic institutions, and industrial enterprises. This collaboration ensures that **advances in automation, MBSE and AI** are translated into practical, scalable solutions aligned with real industrial needs. By accelerating sustainable engineering, Enginuity will strengthen European competitiveness, support decarbonisation and contribute to a more resilient and sustainable industrial future.
